Q3 earnings, 21 October: what to watch on Robotaxi and Cybercab
Tesla reports third-quarter results on Wednesday 21 October. These calls have become the main venue where the company actually puts numbers on the robotaxi programme, which makes this a useful place to watch.
The last official fleet figure we have is 300+ Cybercabs serving Austin, which Tesla described as an 8x increase in 30 days. Dallas was named as next, with no date attached.
What to listen for:
- Does Dallas get a date, or does it slip again?
- A fresh fleet number. Is 300+ still current, and does Tesla talk about utilisation rather than just vehicles built?
- The "dozen or so states" claim. Musk said in April that robotaxi would reach a dozen or so states by the end of 2026. That is now a two-month claim, so it either firms up or quietly moves.
- Production: Tesla says Cybercab drive units come off the line every 10 seconds, which is a component cadence rather than a vehicle figure. Stated annual capacity is 125,000, against Musk's earlier talk of 2-4 million a year. Movement between those numbers is the interesting part.
- Whether safety comes up unprompted, given the NHTSA audit query and the separate FSD investigation.
- Anything about the Model Y robotaxi fleet and how Cybercab replaces it.
Worth having in mind:
- 300+ Cybercabs in Austin as of 10 October, per Tesla
- 45 registered vehicles at launch in September, per Texas DMV figures
- 125,000 units annual capacity, stated in April
- Robotaxi currently serving Austin, Dallas, Houston, Tampa and Miami
Post during and after the call. If you catch a number I have missed, reply with it - I would rather this thread be accurate than tidy.
